District Play Starts In Athens

The Tigers will play the first truly meaningful game of the year this Friday when they open district 14-4A play in Athens.  After rebounding from their only loss of the year by crushing Waco University, the Tigers have used their off week to rest and heal up and will be looking to get off to a fast start.

Athens has struggled so far in it's second year under Coach Robert Ivey who is trying to rebuild a once proud program.  The Hornets haven't found the win column so far and are coming off a 44-7 loss that was shortened by the storms last weekend.  Despite rain all week it is supposed to clear up for the game Friday night.

QB Cody Smith will look to test the Tigers through the air with his top target Jermaine Jackson.  On the ground the Hornets spread the carries around but Kantrail Carter and Brandon Warren have gotten the lion's share of the carries so far this year.

When the Tigers have the ball, sophomore Keith Leerskov will again get the start as Eric Gordon is not quite back from his shoulder sprain.  RB Jay Finley should continue to emerge as a feature back for the Tigers.  It should be a great game to start the district season so come to Athens and cheer on the Tigers!!!
