Final Tune-Up A Real Test

Coach Henigan has seen a lot go right in this early part of the season, on Friday when Waco University comes to town, his Tigers will have to overcome some things that have gone wrong.  Not only are the Tigers coming off of their first loss, QB Eric Gordon will not be available due to a shoulder injury.  On the other sideline the Trojans gained a world of momentum last weekend by picking up their first win of the season against Dallas Kimball.

With Gordon unavailable, the quarterbacking duties will fall to sophomore Keith Leerskov who introduced himself to Tiger fans in the home opener against Willis with a 92 yard touchdown run.  He'll be counted on to pick up where Gordon left off on the passing game as well though which could be a tough task considering the outstanding season Gordon had enjoyed so far.  Helping Leerskov out will be fellow sophomore Jay Finley who finally saw the field on Friday night and spiced up a previously lethargic running game by gaining 88 yards on only 9 carries.

The Tigers will need to be extra careful with the ball against University, as the Trojans last week scored three touchdowns on turnovers and forced four turnovers overall.  Leerskov will have the same deep, talented receiver corps as Gordon and will likely need to spread the ball around because of teams insistence on playing special coverages in order to deny Jon Bauer catches as much as possible.

On defense the Tigers will need to show that they've recovered from the first game all year where they allowed more than 15 points.  University scored 51 points against Kimball who was a highly touted team prior to the season start.  QB Darrick Brownlow threw for 170 yards and four touchdowns in their victory.

It should be a great game, so come out to Tiger Field and cheer on the Tigers!!!
